After the deployment
of an extended manufacturing network in 1999-2001, Plastic Omnium
Auto Exterior operates 22 productions facilities and 20 forward
supplier facilities in Europe and North and South America.
Brought on stream
in 2002, the Bratislava plant (Slovakia) is the Division's newest.
It delivers body-color front and rear bumpers for the Volkswagen
Polo, as well as the structural front-end system and front and rear
bumper modules for the Volkswagen Touareg and Porsche Cayenne. Its
location in Central Europe points to new long-term development opportunities
in this fast-growing market.
With its global
scope, the Division can tailor its bid to tender specifications
and rapidly deploy new products and technological solutions.

Plastic Omnium Auto Exterior dedicates 6% of its sales to Research
and Development, focused on :
- developing integrated, modular solutions,
- eco-designing cars and parts for end-of-life recyclability,
- cutting fuel consumption through lighter components and vehicles,
- improving impact absorption and pedestrian safety,
- personalizing bodywork, in particular through film overmolding
and back decoration.
With the 2002
opening of Σ-Sigmatech, its new international research and development
center, Plastic Omnium Auto Exterior has clearly expressed a commitment
to broadening and deepening its innovative solutions for the car
of tomorrow. The 15,000-square-meter, state-of-the-art facility
houses engineering and design offices, an integrated laboratory
and a unique pilot production line that allows for full-scale simulation
and validation of injection, painting and assembly processes.
