As a world leader in the design and manufacture of bumpers, fenders, body panels and body modules, Plastic Omnium Auto Exterior delivers integrated systems and solutions to the world's leading carmakers. The Division serves 15% of the global market for exterior components.
 
 


After the deployment of an extended manufacturing network in 1999-2001, Plastic Omnium Auto Exterior operates 22 productions facilities and 20 forward supplier facilities in Europe and North and South America.

Brought on stream in 2002, the Bratislava plant (Slovakia) is the Division's newest. It delivers body-color front and rear bumpers for the Volkswagen Polo, as well as the structural front-end system and front and rear bumper modules for the Volkswagen Touareg and Porsche Cayenne. Its location in Central Europe points to new long-term development opportunities in this fast-growing market.

With its global scope, the Division can tailor its bid to tender specifications and rapidly deploy new products and technological solutions.



Plastic Omnium Auto Exterior dedicates 6% of its sales to Research and Development, focused on :
- developing integrated, modular solutions,
- eco-designing cars and parts for end-of-life recyclability,
- cutting fuel consumption through lighter components and vehicles,
- improving impact absorption and pedestrian safety,
- personalizing bodywork, in particular through film overmolding and back decoration.

With the 2002 opening of Σ-Sigmatech, its new international research and development center, Plastic Omnium Auto Exterior has clearly expressed a commitment to broadening and deepening its innovative solutions for the car of tomorrow. The 15,000-square-meter, state-of-the-art facility houses engineering and design offices, an integrated laboratory and a unique pilot production line that allows for full-scale simulation and validation of injection, painting and assembly processes.

Well positioned in the promising market for front-end assemblies, Plastic Omnium Auto Exterior offers carmakers the Omnium System Car front-end assembly and the Max rear-end assembly unit that optimize vehicle costs, weight, size and reparability.

In a special partnership with Valeo, Plastic Omnium Auto Exterior designed and integrated front-end module for the Renault Megane II. The partners'equally owned joint venture, Valeo Plastic Omnium, has set up two assembly and sequential delivery facilities in Douai, France and Palencia, Spain.

 

 

In the area of rear-opening modules, Plastic Omnium Auto Exterior holds a 34% stake in Inoplast, a leading designer and manufacturer of parts and modules made of composite, fibreglass-reinforced thermosetting materials, such as sheet molding compound. With Inoplast, Plastic Omnium Auto Exterior created Inoplastic Omnium, an equally joint venture, located in Mexico and Spain.
