The Center – called ∑-Sigmatech – brings together teams that work not only in research and development but also in purchasing, quality, logistics and management support functions.
Organized in project platforms that cover a total of 15,000 square meters, some 400 engineers apply the most advanced innovation technologies and collaborative engineering methods to develop new materials and processes, as well as testing and analysis procedures.
Equipped with a unique pilot production line, the ∑-Sigmatech center enables the simulation and validation of process engineering capacities for such complex processes as injection, painting and assembly.
In 2009, the Environment Division’s R&D teams also relocated to ∑-Sigmatech, where they now benefit from the resources, tools and unique environment of a facility fully dedicated to cutting-edge research.
The Center brings together people of ten different nationalities – 80% of them engineers – who work in English or German around 70% of the time.
Since its founding in 1947 by Pierre Burelle, an impassioned engineer, Plastic Omnium has built its success on innovation. Its history has been marked by a large number of discoveries that attest to the Company’s pioneering spirit. The vaccination ring in 1962 and the first wheeled household waste container in 1975 are two significant examples of this capacity for innovation.
