Plastic Omnium concept car allowing a 110 kg weight saving

Plastic Omnium presented, in the IAA Motor Show of Frankfurt, a whole new set innovations containing thermoplastics and high performance composites to reduce the overall weight of vehicle structure. With the right material in the right place, weight can be reduced by 110 kg, which represents 45% less than a traditional steel structure.

Three levels of performance are represented on the concept vehicle:
1- Semi-structural composites, reinforced with cut glass fibers.
2- High performance composites are composed of woven reinforcements in glass and carbon fiber fabrics.
3- Very high performance composites are materials reinforced by high performance carbon fibers.
