Plastic Omnium Partners With Orange in Waste Management

Last November 24, Plastic Omnium Environment signed a partnership with Orange Business Services, a subsidiary of the French telecoms operator, at the Salon des Maires et de Collectivités Locales, a public procurement trade show in Paris. Under the agreement, Orange will offer Plastic Omnium its expertise in transmitting, managing and securing data, thanks to its machine-to-machine technology (M2M), which will enhance Plastic Omnium’s solutions for optimizing waste collection systems.

Collection truck geolocation and data processing services
Combining a collection truck geolocation system and the related data processing services, the proposed solution provides local authorities with a wealth of information that they can use to analyze the effectiveness of their waste collection services and to reduce their costs.
Thanks to the RFID chips installed on wheeled bins by Plastic Omnium, it also allows communities to implement customized tracking of waste for incentive-based pricing programs (i.e. with prices based on the volume of household waste).

Larger projects for Plastic Omnium
Plastic Omnium expects that by 2015, five million people in France will be concerned by incentive-based pricing. The partnership with Orange will enable the Group to deploy more extensive projects. The two companies have already submitted joint bids to several tenders.
