Incentive-based invoicing wins new converts
Waste management and related services have been one of Plastic Omnium Environment’s core competencies for many years. Today, these services include data management systems, a field of expertise that enables the company to provide local authorities with incentive-based invoicing solutions. The principle is simple: users are billed on the number of times their residual household waste containers are put out for collection. The system encourages residents to sort more waste in order to reduce their collection bills.
As part of a commitment to transparency and fairness, a new online system has been introduced that allows authorities to monitor each waste producer’s performance and provides them with tools for optimizing truck collection routes. At the same time, another dedicated online service lets constituents consult past invoices with the goal of reducing their bills by improving their waste-sorting practices.
Since they also help protect the environment, incentive-based invoicing solutions have a dual impact, enabling communities to improve their environmental performance and, above all, reduce their waste management and collection budget. The results speak for themselves: in France, the first communities to embrace this approach have noted a 35-40% decline in the weight of residual household waste, as more and more constituents choose to sort their waste.
Plastic Omnium Environment already uses incentive-based invoicing for nearly 400,000 people in France and close to one million in Europe.
