INNOVATION BY PLASTIC OMNIUM

R&D strategy draws upon two international centers: Σ-Sigmatech (Lyon, France), dedicated to external body parts and composite materials and α-Alphatech (Compiègne, France), dedicated to fuel tank systems, SCR tank systems and new energy storage solutions. The worldwide network is thus comprised of 22 centers and 2,000 employees, representing 20 nationalities, who are dedicated to innovative solutions that enable Plastic Omnium’s customers to meet the most stringent environmental standards.

FOCUS ON OUR 2 GLOBAL R&D CENTERS

Σ-Sigmatech

Plastic Omnium’s R&D International Center was inaugurated in 2003 and enriched in 2011 with an extension dedicated to Composite Expertise.

The Center – known as Σ-Sigmatech – brings together 500 engineers and associated functions: purchasing, quality, logistics and management support.

Organized in project platforms Σ-Sigmatech use the most advanced innovation technologies and collaborative engineering methods to develop new materials and processes, as well as testing and analysis procedures.

Equipped with a unique pilot production line, the Σ-Sigmatech center enables the simulation and validation of process engineering capacities for such complex processes as injection, painting and assembly.

R&D Alphatech Plastic Omnium

α-Alphatech

The new development and tests center dedicated to fuel tank systems, SCR tank systems and new energy storage solutions. opened on September 1st, 2014.

The ambition of this technical center, counting 470 employees of different nationalities, is to be a cluster of excellence. It will help simplify transversal projects and communication between the different departments, aiming to reduce time and cost and to better serve manufacturers.

State-of-the-art equipment!

On its 24,000 m2 campus, the center includes a pilot plant and benefits from the latest equipment: laboratories, an anechoic chamber for studying the noise made by fuel as it moves in the tanks of hybrid vehicles, a virtual reality setup to optimize production processes, ATEX laboratories allowing technicians to handle hydrocarbons at high temperatures in a safe environment…
